ROOT CANAL THERAPY (ENDODONTICS)

  • What is root canal therapy? Root canal treatment is performed to save a tooth when its nerve becomes injured or infected. A tooth with a damaged nerve can become immensely painful if left untreated. Root canal treatment removes the damaged nerve and replaces it with a sterile, inert material.
  • How long does it take? Commonly, root canal treatment is performed in either one or two visits.
  • Is it painful? Because of changes in dental anesthetics and strategies, the old stereotypical treatment of the terrible root canal is a relic of days gone by. Most patients report practically no distress throughout procedure.
  • After a root canal is anything else required? Most teeth that require a root canal must be permanently sealed with a dental crown.
